"Leviathan" by Scott Westerfeld

This book is awesome!!! It is about a alternate reility World War I! In this version the Central Powers had gaint metal walkers! (What is up with bad guys and walkers!? LOL) The Allies on the other hand had found a way to breed mutant animals! They used those for air and land transport. Anyway the book switches between the point-of-view of Alek, the son of the ruler of Austria-Hungary, and Deryn, a young girl secretly in the British army. THey're adventures take them up and down through dangerous terrain and battles! All in all this is a great read! I give it a 43/4 of 5.

"Green Glass Sea" by Ellen Klages

This book, "Green Glass Sea" was such a good book! It is one of my favorites! This book is set in the 1940's,during World War II. It is about this young girl, Dewey, who lived with her Nana, until her dad comes to get her, to bring her to this military base, where the best scientists and mathematicians are working on "a gadget" to help their side of the war. At this base, that is top secret and guarded by the best, Dewey goes through so much. She meets a girl named Suze, and they become the best of friends, when they realize some things about "the gadget", and to find out what that is, you will have to read the book!!!
So, if you do read "Green Glass Sea", I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did, and if I could rate this book-it would be 5out of 5 stars.

"Out of the Dust" by Karen Hesse

Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse is about a girl named billy Jo who is living through the Dust Bowl. in this book Billy Jo is in love with the piano. her mom and her share the love of the piano. Billy Jo's, mother is expecting a baby and things go terribly wrong with that. Out of the Dust has many good short stories, the book itself was amazing. i would rate this higher than a 5 out of 5, i would give it a 10 out of 10. i would recommend this book to anyone that likes a really good book and loves to read attaching books.

"I Am Apache" by Tanya Landman

This is my favorite book in the world. It gets so interesting i couldn't put it down when i started reading it.

This book is about a fourteen year old Apache girl whose little brother was murdered by the Mexican raiders. The Apache girl's name is Siki, Siki wants revenge of the Mexican raiders that brutally murdered her younger brother.

Siki turns away from the girls path and wants to be a warrior and wants to have the ability of a warrior of her Apache tribe.

What will happen? Will she get her revenge?

"Crispin: at the Edge of the World" by Avi

Crispin and Bear are back in another one of Avis books. But, Crispin and Bear have a harder task this time. The group just left the kings place and now are setting a new journey. Along their journey Bear and Crispin met new friends along the way. Aude a healer and saver to bear sets out with her daughter Troth to help a lady who is having trouble giving birth to her child. Aude tried helping the lady before the baby died, but sadly it was to late and it was the end of Aude too. going back to Bear, Troth joined the boys in their journey. one really strong question that she asked bear catches Bear off guard but Bear doesn't tell her a lie, tell her she is now is his daughter.i rate this book a 5-5 starsi recommend this to who ever is into the past and loves a good story.

"Crispin And The Cross Of Lead" by Avi

We read this book (me and my class) in English class.This book took us about 12 classes maybe more.
This book is about a boy named Crispin and his struggle to survive. At the beginning of the book it tells how Crispin's mother dies and Father Quinel (the priest) helps Crispin bury her.Crispin lives in the village of Stromford along with John Aycliffe every body's worst enemy...Aycliffe trys to burn down Crispin's house because he thinks there is no use to it anymore because Asta nor her husband is alive. Aycliffe also trys to kill Crispin by claiming him as a "Wolfs Head", and telling everyone in the village that he stole money from the church (when he really didn't)! Now everyone is after him so often that he has to run away. Father Quinel trys to help him escape but he gets caught and killed now Crispin is on his own on trying to escape. Crispin comes into another village and discovers that there is only one person who is still living in the village! Sooner or Later Crispin finds out that this guys name is Oliver but he is actually called Bear because of his humongous size. Later on in the book Crispin finds out that Lord Furnival is his real father (even though his mother said that he was dead)! And after a while with bear he has learned to sing,dance,play the recorder, hunt, and plenty others...And after the long time that Crispin has been away from Stromford Aycliffe was still looking for him. Now Bear and Crispin are in Great Wexly and never guess what so is John Aycliffe, his worst enemy!!! At the end of the book Bear gets captured by Aycliffe just to get close to Crispin...until...Crispin promises to god that if Aycliffe takes him to Bear then Crispin would never admit that he was Lord Furnival's son. John made the deal and took him to Bear (who was all torn and beaten)! Anyways at the VERY VERY VERY last pages Aycliffe gets killed and Crispin keeps his promise he never revealed that he was Lord Furnival's one and only son. Bear And Crispin are now free from all the fighting!
Well that is the end and there is another book of Crispin but i am not quite sure what it is!
But in the beginning he is called Asta's son because his mothers name was Asta. This is a really interesting book and i would mark it 5 stars.

"The Royal Diaries: Isabel, Jewel Of Castilla" by Carolyn Meyer

Isabel is the princess of Castilla. Her elder brother Enrique is the king. He banished her and her younger brother Alfonso to Segovia to be cared for by his queen Juana and her daughter princess Juana, princes of Asturias. Alfonso left and become a king against Enrique to defeat him and become the king of Castilla. Enrique is in court in Madrid. Enrique wishes that Isabel marries queen Juana’s elder brother who she calls El Escorpión, meaning scorpion. A letter from Enrique said that Isabel would not marry king Afonso , El Escorpión. She will marry Pedro Giŕon. The wedding is to be in one week and Isabel is to go to Madrid immediately. Pedro Giŕon is even more old and ugly compared to king Afonso. Giŕon has still not arrived in Madrid. Isabel will not eat until the wedding is canceled. A messenger said that Giŕon saw what he and his men thought an ill omen. Only hours after Giŕon fell queasy and died. Isabel felt ill. She had chills and a fever. The physician diagnosed her with ague. Isabel is visiting her mother and Alfonso just arrived. Alfonso has left to go to Toledo. BeatrÍz is expecting a child in spring. She had her child a baby boy and named him Rodrigo. His godmother is Isabel. Alfonso and Catalina both died. Isabel is to meet with Enrique. Enrique swore Isabel as his heir and then broke all of his promises. She has made a plan to make it so that she will not marry king Afonso. While Enrique is gone Isabel is leaving and has made marriage plans without Enrique’s OK. She will marry Fernando. They had 5 children named Isabel, Juan, Catalina, Maria and Juana. The only lucky of her children was Maria. Isabel died in child birth, Juan died at 19 Juana went mad Catalina married Henry VIII. Isabel died at the age of 53 just 9 years before Fernando.

I would give this book five stars and think that you should read it too.

"Cleopatra VII: Daughter of the Nile" by Kristiana Gregory

I just finished a book called Cleopatra VII, and it's a really good book. This book is about the 12 year old princess of Egypt, and her troubles throughout the book such as an untrusted plotting sister, trouble in Rome, and an assassin. This book has many surprises, twists and turns. This is a historical fiction book. If you like adventure and surprises, this is the book for you.

"Catherine: The Great Journey" by Kristiana Gregory

This book is about a young princess named Sophie. She receives a letter from the empress of Russia to come and be the grand duchess, marry the duke Peter and rule all of Russia after her. Sophie's name is changed to Catherine and she has to change her religion an d language to Impress the empress in order to keep her duty and rule Russia after empress Elizabeth. when the grand duke peter gets sick Catherine is afraid that measles and other dangerous and killing sicknesses will make have to leave Russia after the grand duke dies. luckily the grand duke survives but will be able to cover up the scars from his sickness to show his face in public, or even in front of Catherine ever again?

I give this book five stars and think that you should read it to.

"A Coal Miner's Bride: The Diary of Anetka Kaminska" by Susan Campbell Bartoletti

This book was one of my favorites. Anetka Kaminska,a polish immagrant,come to America because her Father gave her away to marry A man named Stanley Garywich. Only to find love to a man named Leon Nasivich.Leon,an ex-soilder of the current Zaar,Comes with Anetka to America. After Stanley and Anetka are are married, troubles arise and Stanley is killed in a mine fall. So Anetka goes from wife to widow in a matter of months. Now that she is open, leon takes that chance.1 One month later,there is a riot and leon is shot. Does he survive? Only way to find out is to read it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Anacaona" by Edwidge Danticat

Anacaona is an interesting book. Anacaona was the princess of an island of Xatagua in Haiti in the 1490's. She has a brother named Behechio, Baba and Bibi (mother and father). She moves to another island called Maguana when she marries Chief Canabo and becomes queen of that island. She trains to defeat the Killan and to protect her land from all harm. Later she has a baby . When some white men come to attack and take away their gold Anacaona, Canabo and their warriors defeat them. She defeated the white men to not only protect her land but to protect her baby. She meets a woman from Maguana and makes friends with her. When ever she needs help she is there for her. I highly recommend the book Anacaona to you.

I give this book five stars.

"Hattie Big Sky" by Kirby Larson

Hattie Big Sky is an inspirational book about a young girl looking for a better life. She trys to find it by going to work on her uncle's homestead out in Montana. She finds that everything is going to need alot of work including the house if you can even call it that. She goes through long and enduring work to plant all her crops and harvest them on time. She makes new friends that always willing to help her out but still there are some people that don't believe that a woman, especially of her age, should run a homestead by herself.

In Hattie's hard life will she still find time for herself to relax? Will she get the crops harvested on time? Find out in this exciting journey through the eyes of a young lonely girl in Hattie Big Sky. I would give this book a 4 out of 5.

"Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" By Mildred D. Taylor

The book, "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" is one that I read in Social Studies. It has won many awards, such as The Newberry Medal, it was a National Book Award nominee, it was an ALA Notable Book, and has won the Pacific Northwest Young Readers Award. It is the fictional tale of the Logan family living in Mississippi during the height of the 1930's Depression. As quoted from the jacket of the book, "More than a work of fiction, this is a story culled from Ms. Taylor's own family's life and it stands and it stands as an important record of an African-American experience from our country's complicated and not-so-distant past." I recommend this book for those who wish to look into the life of an African-American family during the depression. Such a vivid recollection of this kind of life, is why I give this book a Five of Five stars. I however, didn't really enjoy reading this book. True, the tale of Cassie is inspirational, but it didn't really capture my attention. Other than that, all aspects of the book were beautiful.

"Elijah of Buxton" by Christopher Paul Curtis

Did you ever wish you could go back in history just to see how people looked, and talked, and dressed, what they ate, etc? This book is the next best thing to a time machine; it provides the reader with a first-class ticket to observe the community of Buxton, Ontario in the 1850s. Buxton was (and is) a real town that was founded by and for newly-freed slaves, most of whom escaped from their American slave owners. (The photo to the left is of a replica of the Freedom Bell, which was rung each time a newly escaped slave experienced their first day of freedom by seeking refuge in Buxton.)

The people of the community come alive through the eyes and voice of Elijah, who has the honor of being the first child born into freedom. (He also holds a more dubious and disgusting honor of "anointing" famed abolitionist Frederick Douglass after he jiggled baby Elijah a little too emphatically after a feeding.) Elijah has been pegged as being a "fragile" boy - one whose tears and fears are always a little too close to the surface. As Elijah faces the challenges of adolescence, we get a fascinating, a very funny, glimpse into what it must have been like to grow up in a warm, supportive, rural community.

Curtis enhances Elijah's voice with plenty of humor (my favorite story involved Elijah's overwhelming fear of snakes), but the humor stops and real drama begins as Elijah travels to the American side of the river in order to attempt to retrieve stolen money that was to be used to buy a community member's still-enslaved family. Elijah's exploration of a seemingly-abandoned barn - and what he finds inside it - is both heart-stopping and heart-rending.

Read the novel "Elijah of Buxton" for the humor, the drama, and also for a fascinating glimpse into a group of people in the process of overcoming the physical and mental barriers to freedom.
