"Eragon" by Christopher Paolini

A young farm boy named Eragon goes on an epic journey including dragons, magic, and murder. While hunting in the Spine one day, Eragon found a strange egg. After caring for the egg, it hatches into a young dragon. Brom, the story-teller of Eragon's home-town, comes to get him after Eragon's father died because of the Ra'zac. Saphira, Eragon's dragon, was then fully grown, able to fly and carry Eragon on her back. The three came across many challenges, but accomplished them all; they fought Urgals and survived in the forest. Brom died by fighting a Shade, and Eragon found a new accomplice, Murtagh. After saving an elf, they take her to a safe place to be healed, far out of Eragon's home country. Awhile staying, a battle erupts, the people urging Eragon to fight with them. Eragon does prevail, and Saphira finally breathes fire.Christopher Paolini really outdid himself writing Eragon.

I liked Eragon and Eldest, but by the time Brisinger came out I was bored with the series.
